Final Spring Weekend
Hello SMGSA Families!
9 1/2 weeks down and one “small” weekend to go. I mean that in a most sarcastic way, of course. This Saturday, May 13th, 8 SMGSA teams will play in their respective division championship games. How the teams played during the season is out the window. Some of the greatest, most intense games I have seen have taken place in the championships. I hope that you can your family will come out to watch one, two, three or all four games. The schedule is as follows:
8U Championship, 11:45am, Heasley Field – Lucky Clovers vs Blue Lightning
10U Championship, 2:00pm, Heasley Field – Dolphins vs Blue Bombers
12U Championship, 4:15pm, Heasley Field – S.W.A.T. vs Attitude
14U Championship, 6:30pm, Heasley Field – Red Devils vs Blue Lightning
Also on Saturday, beginning at 8am, is the annual SMGSA Coaches Game. This is always a fun one to watch especially when the girls let their coaches have it for fielding errors or even striking out. Donuts, breakfast burritos, coffee and hot chocolate will be available for purchase in the diner.
Right after the coaches game, SMGSA will host closing ceremonies with trophies and participation medals being distributed. The ceremonies will begin at 10am and go for about an hour. The spring yearbook will also be handed out during the closing ceremonies.
But wait, there’s more! We start off the amazing weekend with Movie Night in the Park on Friday night, May 12th. Bring the family, a blanket and/or lawn chairs and come to Heasley Field to join other SMGSA families watching Disney’s Moana. The diner will open at 6:30 and the movie will begin at 7:30.
In the next day or so, each family will receive an email from our new voting website, simplyvoting.com. On Saturday at 10am, the polls will open for the 2017-2018 Executive Board for SMGSA and this year, we are doing it a bit different than previous years. When you receive this email, keep it handy and between the hours of 10am to 4pm on Saturday, click on the voting link that is sent to you to vote for the 19 board positions up for grabs. The email will be sent to the email address(es) that were inputted into our spring registration system. With every SMGSA parent being a member of this league, your voice is important and your vote will determine the 19 people that will lead this league for the next 12 months. Please take a few minutes on Saturday vote.
Finally, after the season is said and done, Sunday we remember that there are more important things in life than softball and we honor those great women we call Mom. From all of us at SMGSA, we’d like to wish each and every Mom a joyous and restful Mother’s Day filled with lots of laughter and love.
Hope to see you all out on the field on Friday night!
